The WCPS Essential Curriculum and the IB MYP Framework
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme framework and the WCPS Essential Curriculum dovetail in order to provide a student centered, concept-based, inquiry-driven experience for all learners.
Subject Group Overviews
The Middle Years Programme offers 8 subjects at Northern Middle School and 6 subjects at North Hagerstown High School. Subject group overviews provide a snapshot of the concepts, global contexts, and approaches to learning skills explored throughout a unit of study.
The MYP Personal Project
MYP students in year 5 (grade 10) will complete the personal project. The personal project is a student-centered and age-appropriate practical exploration in which students consolidate their learning throughout the programme. This long-term project is designed as an independent learning experience that formally assesses students' ATL skills for self-management, research, communication, critical and creative thinking, and collaboration. The personal project encourages students to practice and strengthen their ATL skills, to connect classroom learning engagements with personal experience, and to develop their own interests for lifelong learning.
